Tekken Dark Resurrection Review for PSPTekken: Dark Resurrection is a fighting arcade game developed and published by Namco for the Sony PlayStation Portable gaming device as a port of the Sony PlayStation 2 title – Tekken 5. It is the fifth installment of the popular arcade fighting game, but technically it is the seventh game in the franchise. Tekken: Dark Resurrection was released in July 2006 in North America and in September 2006 in Europe. Tekken: Dark Resurrection is a port of Tekken 5 for the Sony PlayStation Portable, thus it follow the same story as it, but with a couple of additional elements. Lili Rochefort wants to help her father Sergei Dragunov and end his financial problems by killing Mishima Zaibatsu. Also her father is a Spetsnaz member who was sent to capture Jin Kazama. The Sony PlayStation 2 version of Tekken 5 did a fairy good job in delivering the roots of the franchise to the next level. Dark Resurrection is based on Tekken 5; however it has been upgraded with a couple of more features like new stages, fighters, customizable options, ranks and etc.

This is a game that will amaze you of its performance and graphics on a portable device. Tekken: Dark Resurrection runs at sixty frames per second during fights and although the graphics and models are not as smooth as the Sony PlayStation 2 version, they are still one of the best graphics seen on the Sony PlayStation Portable gaming device. One of the greatest features in Dark Resurrection for PSP is the “Tekken Dojo” mode, which enables players to fight against each other through their recorded “Ghosts”. Ghosts can be uploaded and downloaded anytime online and an official ghost packs can be also downloaded. Gold Rush mode can be used to battle with other players for the in-game cash. Dark Resurrection for PSP offers the ability to play in Multiplayer ad-hoc with only one copy of the game. This is done through “Game-Sharing”. Mini bonus games from Tekken 4 and Tekken Tag Tournament like “Tekken Bowl” are also great additions to the Sony PlayStation Portable version of Tekken.

Dark Resurrection contains modified versions of the original stages with different music, backgrounds and textures, which makes them “new additional” stages to the game, because they are unrecognizable. Dark Resurrection also provides more customizable options for the players, since some of the character colors and outfit were different from the original artwork. Players can purchase clothing and customize the appearance of every character by winning in-game money. In-game money can be claimed by playing most of the game modes in Dark Resurrection. Along with these additions the Arcade Battle has also been upgraded with new features. Twelve more ranks were added and the “Conquer” one was removed. The highest ranking title is now “Divine Fist” instead of “Tekken Lord”. It is achieved when the players beat all the challenges, matches and tournaments. Players can be promoted to Divine Fist at the last stages of the Heaven Dojo. Another feature to the Arcade mode is the statistics for each character in the game. Players are able to see their character stats on the character selection screen, loading times before a fight and during a match.

With all of these additions and features, Tekken: Dark Resurrection is a quality fighting game for the Sony PlayStation Portable which will adore every Tekken fan out there, and even attract the ones that do not like this genre.
