XS Games announced the early spring 2010 release of The Red Star for iPhone and PSPGo. The game was previously released on the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console and met with widespread acclaim. The Red Star combines top-down shooters and beat ‘em up gameplay, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Christian Gossett.

Chief Executive Officer of XS Games, Steve Grossman, said that The Red Star is a proudly old school combination of classic action genres, much in the spirit of Contra and Streets of Rage. He also explained that the PSPGo and iPhone are perfect platforms for the game in terms of controls, visuals and price.
